Locomotion Modes

Locomotion:

Sitting (inactive): Motionless on ischial callosities


Walk/run:
Nonvertical quadrupedal locomotion where two or more feet are in movement


Climb:
Ascending or descending a vertical surface in a quadrupedal locomotion mode

 

Jump: Any degree of spring clear of the ground or other support by a sudden muscular effort of the limbs

Affiliative Behavior

Grooming:

Autogroom: Self directed cleaning of the skin or fur by an oral or manipulatory process

Allogroom: Cleaning of the skin or fur of another by an oral or manipulatory process

Reciprocal groom: Grooming and being groomed at the same time

Present area: Presenting an area of the body towards another to be groomed

Being groomed: Being the recipient of a groom


Contact

Approach/Contact: Approaching and coming in contact with another

 

Embrace: To take or clasp in the arms another

 

Mouth-mouth muzzle: Mouth-to-mouth touching, nuzzling

 

Huddle: Two or more monkeys nestled closely together in contact (not embracing)

 

Being approached/contact: Being approached and initiating contact

 


Threat Submission


Stare:
Directed open eyes gaze with the exposure of the lightly colored eyelids


Head bob:
Forward and downward movement of the head accompanied by stare


Up/down
: Movement from a quadrupedal to a bipedal stance, accompanied by stare


Chase:
Chasing of monkey by another (threat)


Supplant:
To displace physically or take the place of another


Being supplanted:
The consequent of supplant


Grimace:
A wry facial expression with the corners of the mouth pulled back, baring the teeth


Food take:
Overt taking of food items from another


Push:
To exert force upon another directly with the use of the hands


Hit:
To deal a blow or stroke with the hands or feet towards another


Grab:
To seize another suddenly or forcibly with the hands


Bite:
To grip another with the teeth


Play

Play bounce: Characteristic quadrupedal jumping performed in play

Play grapple/ with face: Wrestling, involving two or more monkeys accompanied with a characteristic opened-mouth play face

Play chase: Chase where chasee and chaser chaser roles, interspersed with grapple

Play grab: Grab out of context of aggressive grab

Play (food, object): Manipulation of an object with the hand or mouth


Sexual Behaviors


Present:
Presenting of the perineal area to another

Perineal inspection:
Oral or olfactory inspection of the perineal region of another

Mount:
Ventral to dorsal quadrupedal positioning of two monkeys

Intromission
: Mount with coitus

Food related behavior

Food carry: Carrying of a food item in the hands

Chewing/eat (sit):Chewing or eating (no food preparation or manipulation) while in a sitting position

Food rub: Rubbing with the hands a food item prior to consumption

Nursing: Feeding form the motherís breasts (scored for both mother-infant)

Food manipulation: Preparing food for ingestion (peeling, picking, etc.)

Gnawing: Chewing of paint of the walls, bars etc.

Foraging (sit):The act of searching through the substratum (straw) for food items with subsequent consumption

Foraging (quad):Foraging in a quadrupedal position
